Japan develops sunglasses blocking facial recognition

They are expected to be available for purchase next June for about
$240.

Japan’s National Institute of Informatics is now developing ‘privacy glasses’ that make human faces unreadable to machines.

This version uses a new, unspecified material, along with a patterned surface, to absorb and reflect light. A vast improvement over the earlier of the privacy glasses which used near infrared lights to fool cameras into not seeing a face.
The glasses tricked smartphone cameras in 90 percent of tests with facial recognition software.
They are expected to be available for purchase next June for about $240.
