Senator Saraki
In the face of the ongoing trial of the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, youths from the North have concluded plans to hold a 10-million-man March to force him to resign his position as Senate President.
The convener of the protest, Gambo Gujungu, said Monday that Senator Saraki, by the baggage of corruption hanging on his neck, had lost every moral right to preside over the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Gujungu noted that Senator Saraki, from the onset, betrayed the North and the change mantra when he emerged the Senate President in defiance to the interest and position of the All Progressives Congress ( APC), saying “there is no way Saraki can prosecute the anti-corruption fight of the APC government when his hands are not clean.”
Gujungu, who is also the President of Arewa Youth Forum, argued that the continued stay of Senator Saraki in office as the Senate President posed great threat to the success of the Buhari administration.
“This is not about politics! We feel we owe it a duty to the Nigerian State to contribute our quota to building a new Nigeria where good governance, equity and justice reign supreme. We cannot sit back and watch Senator Saraki sabotage the change mantra that millions of Nigerians voted for. And that is why we are marching out against the Senate President.
“We need someone of strong character who has integrity and morals to preside over the National Assembly. Gone are the days that criminals and rogues paraded themselves as leaders. We have concluded plans to hold a 10-million-man March to force Senator Saraki to resign his position. He can no longer preside over the hallowed chamber,” Gujungu said.
He also disclosed that the mobilisation for the protest had reached an advanced stage, expressing optimism that the ‘mother of all protests’ would definitely sweep Senator Saraki out of office.
