Barely a day to the closing of the Bank Verification Number (BVN), hundreds of customers on Friday in Plateau engaged in last minute rush for the exercise.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that customers besieged banks premises in Mangu and Pankshin local government areas to get verified.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had given Oct. 31 as the deadline for the BVN to all customers operating bank accounts in commercial banks to get registered.
NAN reports that customers on the queues defied the sun and dusty wind in their determination to get their accounts verified.
A bank official, who simply identified himself as Mr Mark, condemned the lackadaisical attitude of customers for the exercise.
The situation was the same in Panyam District, Mangu, where the only Union Bank branch in the area was jam-packed with desperate customers for the exercise.
“I have not been free to come for the BVN, considering the work load before me at my farms.
“In fact, I earlier thought it is something I can send my son to do for me or something I can do at will until I learnt tomorrow is the closing date, ’’ lamented Mr Dakur Dakop, a farmer.
Mr Tony Chigozie, a businessman, said he had done his own at FirstBank Plc, because he also operated an account at UBA Plc and had presented the number.
At Unity Bank plc, Pankshin, where scanty persons were seen verifying their accounts, NAN gathered that the response of the customers within the extended period was “very encouraging.‘’
