LAGOS—Calm has since returned to troubled Mosaku street in Oshodi area of Lagos after gunmen suspected to be members of a rival faction of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Oshodi, shot dead one Olayinka Mamowora aka Mamok on Wednesday, September, 30.
Vanguard gathered that Olayinka was a very close ally of Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, MC Oluomo, the union’s State Treasurer and Oshodi chapter Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW.
According to an eyewitness, Shaibu Agibola who spoke to Vanguard at the scene this morning, “the entire area was like a war zone yesterday when some men stormed the area with motorcycles shooting sporadically into the air to scare residents away. Residents in the area had to scamper for safety as the incident caused pandemonium around the area. By the time the area was calm, Olayinka was found in pool of his blood.”
A resident in the area who spoke on condition of anonymity, he noted that although Mamok was a very articulate young man, unfortunately, he turned himself to a common aide of NURTW chairman, MC Oluomo, for luxury. But you will understand that no one can stop karma, as those who live by the gun die by the gun. This is the consequence of such lifestyles. All the wealth gathered by thuggery has eventually ended. During the change campaign, they killed Esi Oluwo, they even went ahead and killed another guy at Fadeyi who was an ally of Toba Ijaya.
Street gangs
A trader in the area who identified himself simply as Ola Adebajo said: “Street gangs only breed violence and destruction as gangsterism and cultism is soaring high here in Lagos State. People are being killed every day as a result of their menace. Aiye and Eiye are the most notorious among transport union members. The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Ambode, should wake up and arrest it before it spreads throughout the whole state.”
It was gathered that before his death, Mamok was MC Oluomo’s point-man. He was the one that allegedly led the gang that killed Baba Esi, a popular area boy in Oshodi. Mamok was the one that fired the shot that hit Baba Esi in the head, which resulted in his death on April 9, 2015
Before pitching his tent with Oluomo, Mamok was one of the private bodyguards of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole. He attended Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta. The late Mamok, is a relative of Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora.
