
The Kwara State House of Assembly has directed its Committee on Commerce, Industries and Women Affairs to look into the causes of acute fuel scarcity in the State with a view to finding amicable solution to the problem.
This is part of resolution reached by the House following a Matter of Urgent Public Importance raised by a Member representing Adena/Bani/Gweria Constituency AlhajiBa’aziki Suleiman on the persistent fuel scarcity in the State.
The Deputy Speaker Hon. Mathew Okedare who presided over the sitting said the fuel situation in the State was going out of hand and the House according to him would not fold its hand and watch the trend to continue unabated.
The Deputy Speaker equally mandated the Leader, the Deputy Leader and the Deputy Chief Whip of the House Hon Hassan Oyeleke, Hajia SegilolaAbdulkadir and Hon. EbunOwolabi to be part of the Committee to ensure amicable resolution to the fuel scarcity in the State.
He directed the committee to invite the hierarchy of the Directorate of Petroleum Resources (DPR), State Ministry of Commerce and Cooperatives, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association, Major Petroleum Marketers Association and other stakeholder tomorrow and report to the House on Tuesday.
Members had while contributing on the matter identified causes of the scarcity in the State and urged the House to as a Matter of urgency wade into the problem with a view to resolving it to check the untold hardship occasioned by the fuel scarcity.
The House equally mandated its Committee on Ethics, Public Petitions, Priviledge and Judiciary to investigate the increasing armed robbery attack in parts of the State Capital with a view to stemming the tide of persistent insecurity in Ilorin Metropolis.
This followed a Matter of General Public Importance raised by the leader of the House Alhaji Hassan Oyeleke on insecurity in Adewole Housing Estate in Ilorin.
The Deputy Speaker who directed the Committee to invite the Area Commander and Divisional Police officer and other security personnel in the area to have first hand information and report to the House on the 1st of December, 2015.
The Leader of the House had while raising the matter on the floor of the House narrated the ordeal of the residents of Adewole Housing Estate and called on the police to rise to the security challenge.
Members while contributing on the matter enjoined Police in the State to be proactive, while members of the public according to them should be vigilant to happenings around them to check the trend.
